Beaconsfield School Production - Celebrate us

On Wednesday 30 November Beaconsfield school had a production. Marlene Hanson organised the whole production along with Mr. Edmonds as well as Mrs Walker. The first song was Celebrate, RESPECT, then jokes as well as The Blackberry skit. Then it was Yes, No, Maybe and I Want To Belong. After that it was Kiwi Kids and Abolutely Everybody. Then Finally it was Reach and Celebration. Thankyou for coming and watching the production. Also Thank you for the parents and teachers helping out. You were a great help.
Everyone had a great time, but also tiring. :)

Athletics Day

On Friday the 18th, Beaconsfield school went to Athletics. There were 9 different events that were: High jump, long jump, hurdles, sprints, softball throw, 200m race, 800m race, shuttle relay and circular relay.

In the shuttle relay we either came 1st, 2nd or a tie. In the Circular relay Beaconsfield came 2nd place.In the championships for High jump Ben Thomson came 1st,
Laura Seyb came 2nd and Ella Reeves came 3rd. For Hurdles Oli Anderson came 2nd in his 1st heat, in his 2nd heat he came 1st and in the finals he came 3rd.

Everyone had an AWESOME time and we all got great results!

Open Day

On Sunday it was the open Day.At the open day we did the kapa Haka and then we had morning tea. After that we did some work to show the people what kind of work we do.
Once we had done our work, we did a bit of jump jam.Then it was lunch time and we had a sausage sizzle. Then we did long jump as well as high jump!
Everyone had a great time!!

Beaconsfield school Pet Day

On Friday the 28th October we had a pet day. There was a lamb drinking race, dog judging, Horse judging, Cat judging. a fancy dress, etc. Every class made something like room 3 made scarecrows, Room 5 made things out of wood and we made a portrait of someone using garden things.
We also had a police dog demonstration. There were 2 dogs called winder and Blitz. Winder loves biting people and Blitz loves tracking people.
Everyone had an AWESOME time!!

sports with Papakaio

On thursday the 6th of October we had a sports day with Papakaio school from Oamaru. When they got here the KapaHaka group sang the national Anthem and inbetween the boys did the haka. Then after we did that, they sang a song in Maori.

Then we got stuck in and played 4 games through out the whole day. We played: Soft ball, Touch Rugby, Netball and Dodgeball. When it was lunch time we had a free sausage each. Everyone had an Awesome time!!

Science Week

On the 27th to 28th of September, we had a Science Week. We planned to be in house groups and rotated three times during the day. We started at the teachers rooms and did cool things there. In room 2 (Miss Youngs class) we made ice cream. Some people succeded in making things but some people eppicly failed!! We also made hokey pokey to go on the top. In room 6 we made sherbet and also bouncing raisins. Then on Thursday we had a man come called Bruce Warren and we made slim! Everyone had an Awesome time!!

Rugby World Cup mufti day

Last Friday we had to dress up as a supporter or a player for a country in the Rugby World Cup. The supporters had face paint and some of the players had numbers on their backs. Taj Lawrence was dressed up as an Aussie so he got a bit of a hard time. Oli Anderson dressed up as Piri Weepu and had a big beard that was drawn on with face paint. Everyone had a great time!!

Swimming practice at Century Pool

A couple of weeks ago we went to Century Pool for swimming practice. There were 4 coaches each teaching a different group of people. The groups names were: The Stingrays, The Seals, The Super Seals and The Dolphins. Everyone had a great time and after the week we were all much better swimmers!!

Fun game of Netball

On Satuday the 27 of August, The Green, Black and White netball team had a fun game of netball. The White team dressed up as Indians. The Green team dressed up as clowns and the Black team dressed up as Romans. All 3 teams played 2 games each and had lots of fun. The Black team played really silly and even sat down in a circle and played rolly with the other team, Bluestone. Everyone had heaps of fun!

Always Winter, Never Christmas

On Friday the whole school went to a show at the Theatre Royal. It was about a movie called"Narnia". most af the Timaru schools were there. We took the buses to town and by the time we got back to school it was time to go home. It was really cool and everyone enjoyed it alot.

Roundhill Ski trip

On Friday, Beaconsfield School went to Roundhill to Ski or snowboard. Some people had lessons with ski teachers. There were different stages as well. There was a poma and a T bar that you could go on. A lot of people accidently fell over. Even the little kids in Room 1 had a go at skiing. Everyone had a excelent day!

Ice Skating Trip

On Friday the 8th of July Beaconsfield school went to go ice skating at Tekapo. There were variety's which was: The Hot Pools and ice Skating, but not the snow park because there wasn't enough snow. Lots of people fell over and got lots of bruises. They also got blisters because of the ice skates. Kendyll Eady got a broken wrist because she fell over.
Everyone had a great time and it was really fun!

Rural School Cross Country

Last Friday Beaconsfield School had a Rural School Cross Country at Cannington. The people who are probably going to the South Canterbury's are: Sean as well as Sophie Wills, Henry Thomson, Zac Rogers, Ben Thomson, etc. The Year 5/6 track was very muddy and it was 2.5 kilometres long. Sean Wills and Ben Thomson came 1st in their race. All the tracks were very muddy because it had been raining in the morning.
Everyone was exhausted after their race!

Arts Week

Last week Beaconsfield School had an Arts Week. There was different varieties like: art, dance as well as music. Mrs Stevenson helped Room 4 with art, Marlene Hanson tought Room 4 as well as 5 some line dancing moves and Mrs A tought Room 4 how to play some instruments. With Mrs Stevenson for art we drew a drawing of Gallipoli in action. With Marlene Hanson we learned some awesome line dancing moves with Room 5 and Room 4 and Mrs A tought Room 4 to play the guitar as well as the marumba and the Zylaphones. Everyone had a awesome time!

The Breakfast Show

Last Friday Tamati Coffey as well as Mark Ellis came to our school. We had to get up around 5:30am and were there at around 6:30am. For breakfast we had waffles as well as bacon and bread. Tamati Coffey interviewed Dougal about his huge back pack. He also watched Marlenes choir and he joined in with Jump Jam. Everyone hsd a blast!

Book Week

On week 2 of the term we had a book week.On Friday, everyone dressed up as their favourite book character. People won prizes because they put a lot of time into their costumes. Some of the people were: George Squire (as Charlie off Charlie And The Chocolate Factory), Harper (as Captain Underpants) and Molly, Maddy and Olivia W as Cat In The Hat as well as Thing 1 and 2.

Patiti Point

All of Beaconsfield School went to Patiti Point last Friday to pick up rubbish like: lolly wrappers, wire off fishing rods, Bottles as well as cans and many other things. Hamish R was in the newspaper with a big bag full of rubbish.There was a lady taking photos of us hard at work with a big camera.

Breakfast News

This Friday Tamati and Mark Ellis are coming to our school to interview some of us. Oli Anderson, Henry Thomson and Ella Reeves are going to show some art work. Lots of other things are happening e.g the Choir etc.

South Canterbury Swimming Sports

On Wednesday 6 April 2011 Laura, Sophie, Olivia and other people from the school went to the South Canterbury Swimming Sports. Laura got 1st for freestyle in 1 length over all,
2nd in Backstroke 1 length over all. Olivia: 3rd in Backstroke for 2 lengths over all, 1st for the Relay over all. Sophie got 3rd over all in Freestyle 2 lengths. Olivia Waldron and Sean Wills also went as well. Laura nearly broke the record for 1 length for freestyle.

Rural Swimming Sports

On Tuesday 29 March, Year 4 and up went to the Rural Swimming Sports. In the event there were 6 main events which were: Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly, Relay and the Medly relay. In the relay we came 3rd and in the Medly relay we came
1st. Laura, Fletcher, Sean and a lot of others went into the South Canterbury.

Sam wasn't able to compete in the Swimming Sports for her arm was chipped. Other people didn't show up to the event because they were sick. There were also width races as well as lenghts. There was even a width relay as well.

Everybody Had a great time and was very nervous though!

Outdoor Education week for Room 4

Last week, Room 4 as well as Room 6 had an outdoor education week. On Wednesday and Thursday we went abseiling and kayaking. The rest of the week, year 1-6 played a lot of fun games like: Capture the Flag, Cougar etc.

On Wednesday we went abseiling, it was alot of fun but not everyone made it down. We had to walk along this track which led us up to the top of the hill. It was at Mt Horrible, we had to walk through a couple of paddocks to get there.

We did a lot of leadership games such as: leadership, climbing over the fence without touching it etc. Year 6's did the fun leadership games while the year 5's went abseiling. Then we swapped over at lunchtime.

On Thursday year 6's went kayaking at Centenial park. We got split up: the boys and the girls. We had to raft up when the instructor shouted " RAFT UP! " Once we had rafted up, people got to climb out of their kayak and run over the others.

We had a lot of fun with the polytech students!

Hello everybody,this year we have a class with 21 students in it. Some are from Room 3 and some are new to our school. The new person is Kendyll Eady. Kendyll is a year 6.

Now we have 2 cricket teams. A boys cricket team and a girls cricket team. The first game was at school park against Bluestone. Mr Facer coaches the boys and Mr Edmonds coaches the girls. the girls have got a game on Friday the 11 against St Andrews.

We had a second Earthquake and that's when Mckenzie and Jenna came down to our school. Mckenzie and Jenna each stayed for 5 days.

In room 4 for maths,we have been studing geometry as well as place value. For geometry we had to make our own logo. For some ideas we went out to the car park. We went to see the symbols on the front and on the tyre.

Rooms 4,3,5 and 6 have all gone into the Kapa Haka. Mataua Dan came in and helped us with our Maori songs. We learned how to say the alphabet sounds in Maori which is :A E I O U.

Hopefully we have another great year in Room 4!

Tena koutou,
Welcome back to the Room 4 blog. The teachers have been asked to tell something about ourselves, so here goes.
I have been teaching here since 2005. Before that I was at Salisbury School.
I live out at Seadown, so do a fair bit of driving each day.
My interests include family, reading, gardening, travel, and not having to drive anywhere!
In Room 4 we are enjoying getting to know each other and I'm looking forward to working with all these students throughout 2011.

2 weeks ago, Room 3 and 4 went to an outdoor education trip. We went Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The three activities were
Rock climbing, Kayaking as well as Bush walk. Some of the instructors were: Owen, Toby, Jess, Prajot, Mark and many more.

On Thursday the 18 of November Room 4 also went to a Science Road Show. We learned that a type of gas can actually blow out a candle. They put out some displays that we could look and experiment on.

On Friday the19 of November Beaconsfield school went to Athletics. Some of the activities were: High jump, long jump, softball throw and more. We all got a score card to rate ourselves out of 1, 2 or three.

We all had a fun time on those three activities.

Beaconsfield School Pet Day

On Friday the 22nd of October, Beaconsfield School had a pet day. There were activities like Sand Trays, Baking for seniors and juniors, fruit and vegetable vehicle and Floral foot wear. Each pet got judged and they had to walk around the ring. The prizes were a ribbon as well as a certificate. You could enter in the fancy dress for your pet, drinking race or a dog race. The cake auction was a huge success and we raised a lot of money.

The 2010 Beaconsfield school Commonwealth games

On Thursday the 14 of October, Beaconsfield school had their own Commonwealth games. In each groups there were 14 or 15 people in a country.The countries were New Zealand, Australia, India, Canada, Samoa, South Africa and England. There were 8 games we played which included: The Obstacle course, Walking Marathon, Chucking the Caber, The Triathlon, Throwing the water balloons, Dress up relay, Basketball weaving and Target ball. There were gold, Silver and a Bronze medal.

Room 4 Gym Display

Yesterday (Wednesday the 22nd of September) Room 4 performed a gym display for Room 1,2, as well as 3. We were in groups of 5 or 6 people. We had to make up a gym display, there was 4 different things to perform it on. One was the beam, volt, mini beam and also the floor mat. You had to use 3 at the minimum. The groups got to choose the music. The groups all performed such great performances.

A busy week for room 4

It's been a busy week for Room 4 this week. On Tuesday it was the winter tournament, Beaconsfield school entered 3 teams. One year 7 & 8 Basketball team as well as 2 Netball teams.The basketball team won 3 games out 6,but the year 5 and also 6 netball team won all their games. The year 7 & 8 team won 3 out of 5 games.Over the past week room 4 have been planning their own small meal.Then on Wednesday the 15th of September we got to make the food for the class.There was 6 different groups. The food was really yummy.

The 2010 Beaconsfield school Disco

On Friday night last week,10th of September at 6:30-8:30 Beaconsfield school council held a school disco. It was held in the Salisbury hall. We had to dress up in our favourite famous person. There was games including, the limbo, hot potato, sing star, normal dancing and lots more. There was 3 spot prices on the night.

At Beaconsfield school on the 25th of August, the A team played the teachers and relievers for a fun game of netball. The over all score was 6-4 to the teachers. It was a tight game both teams played well. The teachers were wining through out the whole game. The teachers were wearing a top, shorts as well as a funny colourful wig! There was two 10 minute halves. The game was very funny to watch!

Grantlea Downs Play

On Wednesday the 18th, Beaconsfield School went to Grantlea Downs School for a play.It was about lots of different stories from fairy tales all joint into one. The students were the actors. The main characters were the children,witch,good fairy and lots of different creatures. The show went for around about 1 hour.

Tekapo ice skating

On Monday the 16th of August 2010, Beaconsfield school went to the Tekapo ice skating rink. At Tekapo there was three hot pools, an ice skating rink and even a snow park. Room 5 and the year 6's went together, Room 3 and the Year 5's went together, Room 1 as well as room 2 went together. At Tekapo it was really chilly!

Wheels Day 2010

On Friday the 13th of August 2010 Beaconsfield's school council held a wheels day. People were able to bring anything with wheels, but they had to be powered by you. Each category had a track of their own to ride around on. There was weaving and races for people to do. These tracks were available at playtime and lunch. The children were allowed to go out at different times in the day due to the weather.

On Monday the 2nd of August 2010, Mr Facer came to meet us. Mr Facer is going to be our principal in Term 4 in the first two weeks. He told us about himself and what he did. Mr Facer likes sport, P.E also science. He used to be the Principal at Oceanview Heights school. Before that he was a principal at Winchester school. He has 3 kids and also 2 pigs called Itchy and Scratchy.

Room 4 visits harold

On the 19th and the 20th of July Room 4 went into the Harold van. They were learning about the body that includes what all the body have to do to keep us alive.Through the second session we were learning about all the fats sugar and protean in some foods. The lady Jane was our teacher for the two sessions. Harold as well as Jane go around the schools to teach everyone the same as they taught us.

On Thursday the 3rd of June, the cross country was held at Cannington school. All the students that were participating in the cross country had to be there by 11:45. The Year 1 and 2 races started at 12:15pm however the senior races started later. The schools that were there were: St Andrews, Cannington, Timaru Christian, Barton Rural, Beaconsfield as well as St Josephs Pleasant Point. First everyone who participated in the cross country lined up near the starting line to get ready for their exhausting race ahead. Each long race set off about 5 to 10 minutes later than the last race. When you were on the muddy track there was marshals directing you where to go. Everybody who participated in the cross country went to build up their skills. As you crossed the finish line you could hear people cheering you on.

Rural schools cross country

On Thursday the third it is cross country day. Lately we have been practising round the field and on the road doing hill work. Yesterday rooms 3, 4 and 5 started running the whole road to practise. Each day we try and better our last amount of laps we did the day before. We have been counting down for weeks and finally the day is nearly here! We have been learning new stratigies for the day.

Pet Day

On Friday 23 of October it was Beaconsfield School's Pet Day. There was lots of judging and competitions. The competitions were: Sand saucers, Pet day projects, Vegetable animals, Baking and also Community baking which got auctioned. The highest action was $41.25 dollars. Room 5 had a stall to raise money for a camp that they are going to have.

Room 1 playground

On the 16th of September 2009, Year 6 & 7 students started building a play area for room 1. They started by taking the plants out and putting them in another garden. After that they started levelling and stomping on the ground. They are going to put in a sand pit, water table and a road to drive their trucks on.

Maori rock art trip

On the 9/9/09 Room's 4 & 5 went to Opihi and Hazelburn to see some Maori rock art. We saw different pattern's like whale's, bird men, fish, the moa and much more. The Maori drew on Limestone and used charcoal and red ochre and sometimes used limestone. After about a 10 minute walk we came to a 5 to 6 metre Taniwha stretched across the cave on a farm at Opihi.

On Thursday the 19Th of August Beaconsfield School watched a puppet show called Rumpelstiltskin. It was amazing how the puppeteer controlled the puppets mostly with one hand. The main characters were the miller's daughter, the king and the messenger. The miller told the king that his daughter could spin straw into gold, but she couldn't. It was funny when the messenger had to find Rumpelstiltskin's name and a bird came by round a corner making the messenger scream. We think that the whole school enjoyed the puppet show.

The Jump Jam Workshop

On the 11th of August, 10 people from Room 4 and 5 went to Glenti School to do a Jump Jam Workshop. We learnt how to be leaders in the morning and learnt the moves to 7 songs in the afternoon. In the morning we learnt verbal and hand signals for what people need to do next. 10 people from different schools went into groups to discuss questions that Anne ( the instructor), asked and we had say our names loudly, confidently, and clearly. We had to learn to speak loud and clear, be confident, know the moves really well to the songs, and know the timing.

Our trip to Tekapo

On Friday the 7th of August we went to Tekapo and went ice skating,to the hot pools and to the new snow park. At the new snow park there was a big hill that you went down on tubes. There was all sorts of different coloured tubes but they were the same size.

At the hot pools there were three hot pools to go in, we were only allowed in the two bottom ones though. At the ice skating rink we were allowed walking frames if we were not very good. We went to the snow park 1st, ice skating 2nd, and last of all to the hot pools. All the teachers went on the tubes at the snow park, and some parents went to. We went because we got no TRP points. It was our term treat. It was all lots of fun.

The storyteller

On Thursday 2 June the storyteller came his name was Gordon. He told 3 different stories. After everybody went Room 4 went and did some activities with Gordon. We played a game called Zombies. We also played a game where we had to go,in partners and one would say a word and the other would make a sentence with it.

The El Gregoe show.

On Wednesday the 27th of May El Gregoe came to our school to perform a magic show. It was based on Not bullying people in our school. He showed us magic tricks, he had a ladder that had six bars on it. We talked about Respect, Duty , Initiative, Courage, Caring and Compassion. In the show we talked about W. I. T. S, W stands for walk away, I stands Ignore them, T stands for tell someone,S stands for say stop. For some of his tricks it was about Bullying and some where justs Normal tricks. He
did tricks with birds and a rabbit. Lots of people got prizes,it was really funny and a well done show.

RM 4 Term 1 2009

Well, we haven't been great at blogging so far this year, but we aim to do better! Last term was busy with getting to know new classs members and learning new routines. The class worked with Mrs Stevenson on creating some excellent art work depicting The Strathallan. This is on display in Room 4 at present. We also learnt about the conditions that the early European settlers faced on board the sailing ships. Early in the term we studied the history of The Treaty of Waitangi. We also experienced some arctic swimming! Hope you had a great holiday.
